Q&A with Dunedin Host

Q&A with Dunedin Host

Wednesday 31 October 2018

The Dunedin Shanghai Association (DSA) presented a Q&A session to  DunedinHOST and DSA members on 31 October 2018.

This meeting gave Dunedin tourism operators more information regarding Chinese visitor expectations and provided them with an opportunity to ask cultural questions or seek advice on finding solutions they may have in relation to hosting Chinese visitors.

Teresa Chan, with Agnes Sun’ assistance, had organised a panel to address the questions. The panel members came from a full range of backgrounds as follows:

Dr. Hu ZHANG                     School of Pharmacy, Brain Health Research Centre, University of Otago

Dr. Mingming CHENG          Lecturer in tourism at the University of Otago

Shengtong XIN                     Student of University of Otago major in Survey, former journalist in China.

Lin ZHANG                           PHD student of University of Otago.

Teresa CHAN                        Principal of Teresa Chan Law Limited, Chair of the Dunedin Shanghai Association

Agnes SUN                           Business Development Consultant & Legal Executive of Teresa Chan Law Limited,

                                              former Café owner

The questions from DunedHOST members are more around Chinese visitor expectation, how they plan the itinerary, how to communicate with them for different issues, and other cultural related questions. The panel was able to offer information from surveys and studies done, as well as practical answers on how to market to Chinese tourists and deal with difficult issues.

The feedback from the meeting was very good. The members of DunedinHOST found the meeting helpful and has provided them a lot of information.
